The Zatar is a mixture of spices from the Middle East, which is mainly used for dipping bread, pita with olive oil.
It can also be used for cooking white meat, marinades or grilled fish.
Zahatar literally means thyme, hence the name thyme Aleppo.
Its composition includes thyme (or more precisely a variety of swab), sesame, sumac, marjoram and possibly anise, coriander and cumin. As for the mixtures and the proportions vary from one to another brand.
